Nearly five years ago, Lauder came online with Clinique. [...] two more of their brands - Origins and Bobbi Brown - have started their own Web sites. According to Angela Kapp, Lauder vice president and general manager of the online division who developed the Clinique site with two employees in 1996: When you've got brands like ours, you have to be careful. Since I've been involved, my group has grown from two to 25, which is not enough people to support this kind of effort. The Lauder plan for the revamped gloss.com site has three different components: A multi-brand site with a distinctive look and identity to feature Lauder's brands; individual sites for Lauder brands not already online, created by gloss.com's technical and creative team; and "microsites," or "stores-within-stores" on specific retailer sites (such as macys.com).
