Beauty Talk Tuesday // My Favorite Foundations - Andee Layne

Andee Layne

I meant to have this post up yesterday but I had also been wanting to share our Park City Recap with you girls who had been asking. So sorry for the delay but here is this weeks Beauty Talk Tuesday post (on a Wednesday 😉 )  Today i’m sharing my favorite foundations, my go to primer and favorite budget friendly brushes. Now I am a girl who is CONSTANTLY trying new foundations. I don’t know why but even if I find one I love, i’m always trying out new ones. That being said, there are a few foundations that I will always rebuy. My most worn foundations right now are Double Wear Light and MUFE HD Foundation. I have been a HUGE fan of Estee Lauder for years. I first started out using their Double Wear foundation which is a FULL coverage foundation. After about a year  I thought I wanted something a little lighter and I stumbled across their Double Wear Light version and have been hooked ever since! When I shoot my looks for the blog or attend events I am pretty much ALWAYS wearing Double Wear Light.

Lounge Wear LOVE

by andeelayne @ Andee Layne

I have always loved following trends but if there is one I can get on board with immediately, it is Lounge Wear ladies! It’s like a mom life DREAM to be able to roll out in something so comfy that’s also fashionable too. The Set in today’s post basically feels like I am in my pajamas all day long. It’s perfect for lazy weekends around the house and for running everyday errands too.

This set LEGIT feels like i’m in my pajamas. I paired it with These Pearl Slides. I know they are so “EXTRA”;) but I lalalove them. They’re an unexpected piece for me but I was so drawn to them and have worn them NON stop lately.

Matching Tracksuit  (i’m wearing an XS) // Pearl Slides // Bag

and a few other comfy sets I’m LOVVVING….

I’m not gonna lie, i’m pretty excited to see these velour jumpsuits making a come back.  I also have that black crop top /high waist set currently in my shopping cart (ready to channel my inner J Lo) and This Star Set and This Lounge Set look CRAZY comfy!

Youtube drama, the rise and fall of our favorite online sensations

by noreply@blogger.com (Cailin) @ The Salt Diaries

Over the last, say, 5 months, I have been absolutely obsessed with "Drama channels" on YouTube. If you know me, you know I can spend hours watching you tube, and prefer to watch it over Netflix any day.

Ive noticed recently, that there is such a high school mentality with all of these channels and watching the drama unfold is really something. I mean, that's what they are there for, DRAMA! I watch these channels as they target some thoughts I have of our favorite beauty gurus or celebrity you tubers who cause shit in the online society. They show the "receipts" and "coupons" and really lay out the info they could pull off online. I think they are quite interesting, and being someone who loves conspiracy theories, these drama channels and their theories and statements live for my viewing.

What interests me, and has sparked my attention recently is there rise and fall of these drama channels and or the people who they target. I find the biggest issues recently have been racism, animal abuse, lying about veganism, etc and it's just intriguing to me to learn of other peoples views and how they view peoples actions and statements online.

For me, I have always taken things with a grain of salt. It's the internet, we can say whatever the fuck we want, do what we want and generally you live in your little online bubble. That's where we sometimes get the development of the iconic "keyboard warrior" that is so common within the online communities we share today. I for one, have a sick humor, I find most things funny that most people don't find funny and to be honest, I don't care if people find my humor disgusting or horrible. I never go out of my way to offend or make someone feel uncomfortable or feel that way, but honestly, if I post something I find funny and someone states to me they find it offensive, I generally take it with a grain of salt as I know for one, that there is worse out there... BUT, anyways, back to the topic.

So, RISE AND FALL. These Drama channels are great, as they expose the public/community to things that were once not recognized as unacceptable or the knowledge of sponsorship and monetizing videos, blogs, images was never as commonly known as now, especially as now, we are such a digital age. I value their content, however sometimes, the claims can become quite outlandish, or quotes that are "Jokes" are turned into malicious attacks against people.

For example, recently a beauty guru from Australia had claims against her of animal abuse due to having her puppy in a dark room for nearly 12 hrs, while she slept. Many full blown attacks and outlandish claims were made, and this person lost followers, I even got blocked in the process for liking a comment stating that people need to take a step back and ask the source, rather then attack. Interesting. These claims seem to make attacking people easier, and some what accepted and I find this interesting, as most people online promote positivity and respect, however will provide negativity to people who have been "exposed" to the public.

Another example, is the Pewdiepie dilemma, with the media. Basically, the guy posted a funny video of paying $5 to push people to do outlandish things. One part of the video had two boys show a sign that stated *WARNING OFFENSIVE STATEMENT* "death to all Jews", which at first most of the audience loved it and really laughed, but of course, being the largest subscribed channel on you tube, the guy started to cop some major flak. Many social media outlets, as well as popular news outlets blasted him on social media and their own resources to label him an antisemitic/racist and blasted his name in such a negative light. I thought, of course this topic will be hugely covered by drama channels, however, it was more met with positivity from the online community. 50% attacking him, 50% accepting the joke as a joke and not taking it in their stride.

I just find these channels and the development of them to begin to change the communities we have had previously within the YouTube community. Things have changed from 5 major influences, to hundreds of thousands that target every single broad topic. It's fascinating to see what they brand as "Unacceptable" and what is "Acceptable" within the you tube community. Integrity is a great thing, people constantly with brand negative/racial slander in their videos as joke, and they aren't targeted, but beauty gurus are smashed for their behavior due to their status and audiences. It's interesting to see what is wrong and what is right and who that affects. This whole concept is quite fascinating.

As a fellow Youtube addict, I've seen a lot and I think these channels are important to clean up some backlandish behaviour we once never noticed. However, I think it's important that people take a step back from the drama and maybe just realise, it's not all about attacking someone, it's more showing what is right and what is wrong within each community and building an opinion on it. Some things online need to really be taken with a grain of salt, or else it will just continue to be a shit storm of drama and upsetting fellow members within each communities.

Ahwell, just some thoughts for tonight.

New Year Goals

by noreply@blogger.com (Cailin) @ The Salt Diaries

I think a New Year means it's time to set realistic goals to achieve by this time next year. I do this every single year, and by the end of it I see what I have achieved and if I'm happy with that level of achievement or do I want to strive for more.

Now, when I think of goals, I always try to be specific. Very specific. Instead of saying stuff like, "Yeah gonna eat better", "Save money", I try be specific, like, I will save this much money for this reason, or I will lose 2kg rather then just "lose weight" in general. So lets get onto some goals I want to achieve by the end of this year.

1. I want to become more active in my life. Eg; do things out of my comfort zone, strive to push myself to do more things.

Basically, I feel like I'm lazy. I sit at home and relax a lot which was never a thing I did, so now that I'm doing it, I see why I never did it. Because I get bored and I hate just sitting around. So this year, I want to go to new beaches, new restaurants, see new things, explore my city more, learn more about it, etc. I live in Perth city, how have I not explored it yet? It's ridiculous. So, this year, I want to go out of my comfort zone, leave my home and routine same things and do cool new things!

2. Try new things like restaurants, places, foods, clothes!

I want to completely try to do new things. So far, I have been trying new foods I wouldn't normally eat. I have been trying to try these new things and try embrace in the experience. It's been exciting, I have tried new things on the menu, I have tried new drinks and tried new places to shop. It's fun and it feels like you are on a new adventure! Just keep pushing myself into new areas I've never been too. I can't wait to tell you all the new things I've tried and places I've explored.

3. Organize my life by keeping a diary, budgeting, etc.

I have bought a diary, sorted out my planner, figured out what I want to do with myself. I have organised my planner and made it pretty so I feel more obligated to use it and I actually take the time to use it as it's so pretty. I have also purchased a large diary that helps me to organise my day to day life, as well as leave important reminders for me so I can actually reach my goals.

4. Have at least $5,000 in the savings at all times.

I'm such a shit saver, seriously. I get over a certain amount and I'm like, sweet lets spend that on expensive shit cause I can do that. I can't be the only one. So, I am budgeting and forcing myself to save money so that I don't keep forking out bullshit money for no reason, I keep on top of my bills, pay them all on time without having to worry about how much I have left over. Lets hope I can reach my goals soon, I'm excited.

5. Use the $5 rule of saving.

So, I saw this on Facebook and I really like the idea. So basically, every time you get a  $5 you are to put it into savings. I'm going to go the step higher, and everytime I recieve any cash from selling clothing or anything like that, it's going straight to this savings piggy bank, plus all the coins that I get. Obviously, I will use a few coins eg $2 to clean my car, but I'm going to aim to keep most of these coins and aim to keep them for as long as I can, before I submit them to my savings.

6. Give less of a shit about irrelevant things.

I generally don't care of peoples opinions of me, but recently I've been a bit sensitive. So, this year, going to aim to not care about irrelevant things that really shouldn't affect me. I shouldn't take some things to heart, and as Kylie Jenner once said, "This is the year of realising stuff", so yeah, I'm gonna realise stuff and stop getting so cut at dumb shit things I don't need to care about.

Anyways, good luck with your goals this year. I will be uploading a blog soon on how to organise your shit this year, so hopefully that wont be too long and you will have that blog to organise yourself.

Slip Dress + Leather Moto Jacket

by andeelayne @ Andee Layne

A good slip dress is definitely a must have closet essential in my wardrobe. They’re a classic piece that never goes out of style and can be worn so many different ways. Today i’m sharing one of my favorite go to looks wearing a slip dress and leather moto jacket (and this one is CRAZY budget friendly too!).

I have always loved an edgy and feminine combo and this look is just that. You take a sexy feminine piece like this silk slip dress and pair it with something a little more tomboy’ish like a Leather Moto Jacket. I’ve splurged on designer leather jackets but honestly  This One is the best i’ve found Under $100! If you’re on a budget definitely check this one out! To finish I look I threw on Evening Bag and some really fun studded statement heels.

These Studded Ankle Straps Sandals are so fun (and the thicker heel makes them a bit more comfy than my other pairs)

Silk Slip Dress // Studded Sandals // Moto Jacket (Under $100 and i’m wearing an XS) Mine is from last year but This One is identical except it has rose gold hardware // and Across the Body Studded Bag

When is it okay to take a sick day?

by noreply@blogger.com (Cailin) @ The Salt Diaries

I have been faced with this issue for the last two days, and I feel like I wouldn't be the only one who struggles with this. So, when is it acceptable to take a sick day off work?

As a young adult, and during my time in school with a casual position working in a sign writers store - I had the idea that if I took a sick day off, it wouldn't be acceptable. It was wrong unless you were vomiting and clearly, could not get out of bed. Now, I have still, to this day thought the same thing and with nursing, you see people suck it up all the time, so why can't you? I always felt so guilty having to call my manager up to tell them I cannot come in. I felt weak, embarrassed and also, angry at myself because I had to take that day off and I need the money. Basically, most of us share the same feelings when it comes to that dreaded decision. So, I thought I would make a list of the things that I think makes it acceptable to take a sick day, as I googled the same quotes over and over and got no answer.. So, here's mine, in the hope it will make yours easier.

1. You have had no sleep.Seems pretty self-explanatory. If you have barely slept, you have had 1 hr, or 2 and you feel exhausted..What is the point of going to work, complaning about being tired and not being able to complete tasks to the adequate level because you are too tired. Yeah, this is one of those things that you could say, well that's my own fault, etc. However, if you aren't getting enough sleep, your immune system suffers, you feel lethargic, your brain doesn't function at it's capacity, making it useless to even try work and get things done when you have slept that one hour. So if you wake up, you feel exhausted, you haven't slept because i couldn't shut off, you broke up with your boyfriend/girlfriend and/or you are worried about something that kept you up all night.. Evaluate yourself, and if you are too exhausted..Take a day for yourself.

2. You are generally unwell.
This doesn't mean you are in the bathroom vomitting, or cannot get out of bed. However, if you feel exhausted, have a headache, generally unwell with other symptoms. Revaluate going to work. It's not worth you crawling into work to put sub-par effort in, infect everyone else with whatever you have and expect to still be at the same level of not that great. 1. You go to work and make yourself worse because you are straining yourself, and 2. You infect other people or make them feel uncomfortable and sucummed to your complaining about being sick. Save it for later and just take the day off, it's better for all of us.

Before I forget, just because you aren't vomiting and dying, doesn't mean you aren't sick. If you are struggling to even do the basic things you need to do, have a think about it and probably go back to bed.

3. Mental Health Day.
I've only ever had to take two of these in my life, but you do need these every now and then. Say, you have broken up with your significant other, you are upset, worried, concerned and not thinking straight. The last thing you need is to go to work and complain to others, and be on the edge of mental breakdown while trying to do your job. Say, you have encountered some life changes and they are hard to deal with..They need to be sorted out asap, but you don't have time to sort them til the weekend, rendering you stressed and absent minded...aka, take the day off and sort your shit out and come back fresh. You will feel better for it. Sometimes we just need a day to relax, breathe and just take in your own issues, and breathe them out to relax again and get on the straight and narrow.

Reasons not to take off work sick:-

1. You have a movie or event you want to go too, but you have to work and forgot to take a day off.

2. You cannot be bothered, just because you are feeling lazy. It's probably better for you to go to work and get your ass into gear.

3. You had a fight or issue with someone at work and are scared of the repercussions or further conflict.. Just go and face it, taking a day off makes it worse, trust me.

4. You stayed up all night watching movies, and didn't go to bed til an hr before your shift. That's on you bud.

There are many other excuses, but i hope this helps to exclude some things you thought were acceptable or ease you into believing you need to take that sick day.

Hashimotos - The Aftermath 002

by noreply@blogger.com (Cailin) @ The Salt Diaries

Two and a half months since my diagnosis, and I still feel like everyday is another mission. That whole - perfect medium of am I doing the right thing? or, Is this the wrong thing to do?

I always watched my mother, for years struggling with finding this happy medium and I always wondered, "How can she not get it right?".. 2.5 months after my diagnosis and I know exactly how she felt and the struggle of how to make myself feel better and function more effectively. One day, I feel on top of the world, the next I feel like I'm plummeting 5000 meters into the Earth's crust with no vision of a way out.

I've been researching this thing called Auto-immune attacks, basically in cases of over activity, the body tends to attack it's own tissues, and decreases the ability for the body to defend itself against infection, causing vulnerabilities and other affects on the body. After seeing this defined on a Facebook group, I began to write down my symptoms when I was feeling low, and when I was feeling high in my disease; turns out there are many ways I personally felt these attacks. Heres my symptoms:

Hypo:-

  • Extreme Fatigue
  • The essential tremor in my right hand isn't as severe
  • Headaches - specifically, dull aching.
  • Decreased appetite
  • Unable to focus on tasks, eyesight, and mentally focus myself
  • Flat mood
  • Generally feeling unwell

Hyper:-
  • Extreme Energy
  • The essential tremor in my right hand is extremely severe to the point I need to medicate
  • Headaches - specifically, migraines and cluster headaches
  • Increased Appetite
  • Anxiety, jumping to conclusions, feeling upset over minor things, questioning myself, etc.
  • Insomnia
  • Stomach Cramps
  • Vomitting
  • Body aches - specifically joints.
See, I can 100% say these are really not that bad compared to others and the scheme of things. Really, these don't occur that often, but, I was interested to see others symptoms and stressors that cause similar symptoms. Each person is clearly different and it is a real fine line between what is normal and what isn't, many symptoms can be classified as "text book", but some you think, ummm crazy lady that is you girl, not the disease.

Getting back to my Mother, I always thought, how can she never get it right with this disease? How is it that hard? Now, after diagnosis,  I look up to how she functioned and how she always powered through the tough times of this disease to always work her butt off and make out she felt okay. When I call her, and tell her whats going on with me and I try my hardest to listen to her advice, I always just think, this woman, she raised 3 children with this disease. She had no help from a endocrinologist, just told and given some thyroxine to help her out, with no guidance or education.

It's important for me to say this, as looking online can always help, but during this time, reach out to a thyroid help group and get your butt into gear to educate yourself and feel like you can understand this disease and focus on feeling amazing every single day, and also to feel happy. It's amazing what a bit of RnR and self care can do to help a person in their time of need.

Hashimotos has been a journey, but it has made me thankful. I'm crazy right? Yeah, a little! But seriously, I'm thankful for the opportunity it has given me to grow with my mum and our relationship, and I feel it is such a deep connection that not many other people have. Genetics can play a funny role in your life, and although it's a scary road sometimes, be thankful for the experience it has given and the opportunities it may hold. I am not always this optimistic. Some days I hate to get out of bed, and I curse the day for this diagnosis, but the education, the understanding, the reality it has given me in comparison to life is so much more beneficial to me, then the negatives. I always tend to keep in mind,

"This disease is only a fragment of you, it is NOT ALL OF YOU. It does not define you, it makes you."

Another thing I like to always bear in mind, and the final thing I'll leave you with tonight is:

You are not alone in this journey, and there is always someone out there following a similar path, if not the same.

Trying Weird Face Masks! Foil Mask, Bubble Mask, Corset Mask!

by Angie @ hotandflashy50.com

I’m trying weird viral face masks today to find out what’s in them and see if they really do anything for my skin! There’s a bubble mask that makes you look like the elephant man, a plaster “mummy” mask, and a “tin woodman” foil mask among others… Correction: The information …

Life Lately // Via The Camera Roll

by andeelayne @ Andee Layne

HAPPY Friday my Honeybeeee Fam! It’s been a minute so today I am sharing some random Camera Roll Love and little REAL TALK on life lately…

First I wanted to say thank you girls so much for all the warm wishes and birthday love you showed on instagram this past weekend. I feel so blessed to have such a loyal little community and seriously appreciate each and every one of you! The kids made their annual mommy breakfast in bed which consisted of instant oatmeal with a candle in it 😉 (freakin’ melts my heart! I shared it on my insta stories if you girls caught it) and a big ol’ chocolate cake from Susie Cakes (another tradition we seemed to have started).

For date night we got a little more fancy and the hubby took me to Nobu to finish off the day! We made it home early enough to finish Narcos (have you girls seen this season? I swear its better than the last one!)

Obsessing over the prettiest light fixtures at Nobu (if you girls haven’t been, definitely put it on your list!) It’s definitely pricey but even if you just go for drinks before sunset it’s so pretty right on the water.

The reason for adventure

by noreply@blogger.com (Cailin) @ The Salt Diaries

 My Story

I've had a few followers message me and say numerous times, "Why do you love adventure so much?", "Why do you just want to travel all the time?", and of course they understand the experience, the fun and the enjoyment involved in it all, but they have always asked me if there is some kind of drive that makes me want to travel, get out and see the world and sometimes, escape reality. I've always thought to myself, what really does make me want to get away so much, be alone experience new people and just learn more about myself? Well, here's a blog for all curious and what comes with the need to travel.

Many times in my life I have asked myself, "What am I doing in life?", it's always been at a point where I never really saw myself, or whenever everything is perfect, then it all falls apart. At a very young age I was always drawn to travel, the mysteries that are out there, as well as whats waiting for me out there that may shape my life for the better. I was always lost with what career I wanted and I never knew which path I wanted to take. Society made me believe it would be beneficial for me to get a partner, settle down and have children, but I KNEW it was never for me, ever.

At one point in my life I was waking up to my first long term partner in bed, I looked at him when he was sleeping and I knew I wasn't in love with him, or myself for that matter. I didn't really know what to do and then because I was in such a terrible place in my life, I settled and became comfortable with what was happening in my life. Why? I honestly don't even know and I think to myself now, "what the fuck is wrong with you?" I settled, and I sat there in a state of depression, confusion and physical pain from emotions, took me months to get out of it and the heart break from breaking up from him helped so much to really see the truth. As much as there is so much angst there, I thank him for making me realise I deserve so much more in life.

3 months later and realising my calling as a nurse I continued on with my career and realised, why not go away for a few weeks. I ventured off to Bali, Indonesia for a surfing trip and swimming, I enjoyed myself so much and really loved the journey I went on traveling around the entire country and realising whats out there. It was really invigorating. I found that I really did feel happy, the enjoyment was great and I just opened up to myself more to truly understand who I am as a person. I then proceded to travel to many more numerous countries and experience their cultures on my few days off a week I obtained, which really helped me learn about myself and the fact I snuck around and told NO ONE i was travelling was even more fun.

Nearly 4 years down the track and I have no experienced a total of 32 countries, and many different cultures that have given me insight and trust into what life is all about and enjoy myself and truly love my company. Travel to me is important for the fact that it shapes us as the person we are, it gives you those sweet memories that help us along in life when things get tough and it makes you remember to get back in touch with yourself every once and a while.

Life is about you and learning what you want, enjoy and love. Develop your love, passion and create further and push yourself to the limit. Life is amazing.

My Everyday Deconstructed Waves

by andeelayne @ Andee Layne

This post was created in partnership with Living Proof

All right my loves, Today I am teaming up with Living Proof and sharing a new product that has been a GAME CHANGER in my hair routine lately. My go-to hairstyle is a piece’y deconstructed waves and today i’m sharing a mini tutorial showing you how I achieve them.

There are so several products from Living Proof’s revamped Style Lab line that I have been loving but there are two in particular that  have been in constant rotation….

The T.B.D Multi-tasking Styler  (more on this one below) and Blowout are definitely my favorites from the line. Blowout is great because it allows you to create a salon worthy blowout at home. It’s made with thermal speed-shaping technology that shapes and sets your brushwork in place (cutting the number of brush strokes down by 30%) and helps to lock in that blowout ALL day long. If you’re looking to up your at home blow out game, definitely check this spray out.
